PORTUGAL + CHINA + LAS VEGAS = MACAU

The day started a little rough.  We got up at 3am and left at 3:30am for a 5:55am flight.  We then flew from Ho Chi Minh City to Hong Kong.  We thought we'd be able to get a ferry to Macau (the Las Vegas of China) without going through customs.  The next ferry wasn't for a few hours at 12pm so per the advice of the people at the airport decided to take a bus to the downtown ferry terminal.  It ended up being a long wait through customs.  A long wait for the bus.

A very long bus ride.

A super long wait for the ferry as they were all sold out until 12:30 and the people were a bit pushy.

Then the boat ride was very long due to the weather.

And it was crazy rough.

I thought we were going to die or at least get seasick.  Then the bus from the ferry to the hotel was rough as well.

It seemed like the day was ruined.  There was however a glimmer of hope when we arrived at the hotel (Conrad).  It was beautiful.

Jen only had to mention it had been a long day and the manager immediately upgraded us to an incredible suite.  We were paying a little over $200 per night and it was the nicest hotel room we have stayed in (I still like the Four Seasons Chiang Mai a little more).

Jen immediately called down to extend our stay for a second night as soon as she saw the room.  :-)

The hotel is incredible.

Picture Las Vegas but everything is brand spanking new (at least on our side of Macau).

And there is high-end Chinese medicine stores everywhere.

The food is delicious.

There are cool water fountains showing words falling from the ceiling.

And of course Christmas stuff everywhere.  We asked--everyone in Macau and Hong Kong celebrates Christmas even though only 10% are Christian.

We are thrilled to be in civilization again (actually it is much nicer than what we were used to in the US).

We walked around the Venetian.  Very nice but our hotel is a little nicer and much cheaper--gotta love Tripadvisor.

Bird's nests...

Dear antlers...

Dried abalone...

Coming from third-world countries, this all seems extra spectacular...

Dinner was also delicious...

We had a blast!
