Sunrise Monk Tomb Raider

We got up at 4:30AM to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat...

We got some good pictures...

We weren't alone...

Then we practiced meditation and had breakfast with a monk.  Surprisingly fun.

One of many small reminders of the difficulties faced by Cambodia...

We then went to Beng Mealea, a temple being overtaken by the forest where part of the movie Tomb Raider was filmed.

It looked like something out of India Jones especially here where the light peeked through the ceiling.

Jen was really impressed by Beng Mealea.

Then we stopped at a restaurant for lunch--the best meal by far that we had in Cambodia and we had many good meals.

Some women harvesting rice near the side of the road.  They cut it by hand.

Then we went to Banteay Srei, a very small but very detailed and unique red sandstone temple made for the queen, also 1000 years old.

Then we went to Ta Prohm also called the jungle temple because it is being taken over by the jungle and parts of Tomb Raider were filmed here as well.  Our guide talked a lot about Tomb Raider but he has never seen it--we borrowed it and watched it in the hotel room.

Another echo chamber.

Some how 1000 years ago they knew about dinosaurs and what they looked like.  Jen thought it is because they had dinosaurs then.

It's cool how the trees work into the architecture and designs in some places.

And another echo chamber...

This temple is under a lot of construction to restore it so it wasn't as cool as Beng Melea but still very cool.

Then we went to Artisans D'Angkor, a project to teach people different handicrafts.

Jen made a joke in Cambodian so I didn't get it but the guide loved it.

Then we went for dinner near the hotel called Viroth's.  It was very good, especially the drinks.
